In #167, we looked at some of the verbs used to describe Dr. Lokken’s actions. Here we look at a development they indicate between her and Grace.

When Grace and Dr. Lokken meet, they are immediately confrontational (08.017) and go from “annoyed” to ”very annoyed” with each other (13.169).

There is one smile in the first scene with the two of them.

The second scene with the two of them has her laugh and chuckle.

At the end of that scene, Dr. Lokken actually asks Grace’s opinion about one of her ideas. He replies that he thinks it’s genius. She’s then smiles and looks away.

In the very next scene, there is a moment where the narrator says: “Lokken and I looked to each other. I don’t know why but we did.” (14.024)

It’s worth pointing out that, with Grace as the narrator, all her body language is described as noticed by Grace. And Lokken’s body language is described more than most other characters. Other characters (Stratt, Dimitri), purse their lips but Grace notices when Lokken’s lip wobbles.
