Because Steve Hatch named the “beetles” after the “Beatles”, there are a few references to the latter in Project Hail Mary.
“Beatles” itself is mentioned 4 times: 18.206, 18.209, 18.210, and 18.214.
“John” appears 26 times (25 in reference to the “beetle” and once when Ryland is trying to guess his own name in 01.089).
“Paul” appears 22 times and ”Ringo” appears 19 times.
Ever the quiet one, “George” appears only 15 times (14 references to the “beetle” and another one to George Washington).
Even Pete Best gets a mention in 18.210.
“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” gets mentioned in 18.208.
The phrase “get back” appears 27 times and at least 1 time is a reference to the Beatles song.
The phase “let it be” occurs in 07.141 but that’s just a coincidence.
There’s a reference to “A Hard Day’s Night” in 22.150 with Rocky expressing confusion about the phrase:
“You make a good point. I should at least try. It’s been a hard day. Night. Whatever. A hard day’s night.”
“That sentence make no sense.”
“It’s an Earth saying. From a song.” I close my eyes and mumble. “…and I’ve been working like a dog…”
Let us know if you notice any other Beatles references.
