The word “sun” occurs 103 times in Project Hail Mary.

It occurs in every one of the first 8 chapters (especially chapters 3 and 5) but usage begins to fade with only 6 occurrences in the second half of the book. It is not mentioned at all between chapters 20 and 28 but does return in the final two chapters.

It is used 60 times in Earth sections: 17 times by the narrator, 3 times by Bob Redell, 20 times by Grace, 6 times by Marissa, 9 times by Stratt, and 1 time by each of Abby, Dr Browne, Larry, Michael, and Sandra Elias.

It is used 43 times in Space sections, all by the narrator.
