We are introduced to Ryland Grace as the narrator in 01.002 but we (and, in one sense, he) don’t find out his name until Eva Stratt calls him that in 03.041.

The name “Ryland” appears 11 times, spoken by Stratt, Dr. Lokken, DuBois, and Ryland himself. No one but Ryland himself refers to just “Ryland”. Rocky never uses that name at all.

The name “Grace” appears 60 times: 49 times on Earth, spoken by Abby, Bob Redell, Dimitri, Dr. Lamai, Dr. Lokken, DuBois (5 times), Grace himself, Leclerc, Steve (the army guy), Steve Hatch, Stratt (29 times), Theresa, and an unnamed navy man; and 11 times in space including 5 times by Rocky.

Ryland Grace is, of course, the narrator of the entire book, but his direct speech consists of 1,861 quoted passages, 16,951 tokens, and 1,991 unique words.
